North East Zone Sport Climbing Competition 2011
Manipur mountaineering and trekking association will host the North East Zone Sport Climbing Competition in Imphal,Manipur from 7th October 2011 .
In the heart of the town and surrounded by a moat, are ruins of the old Palace of Kangla. Polo Ground here is the oldest existing polo ground in the world. ’Ima Keithel’ at Khwairamband Bazar is the only market in the world where, as the name suggests, all the stalls are run by women.
Manipur has produce International climbers in the recent past Shanthirani devi,Dasini devi,Debala Devi,Pushpakanta are renowned names in India .
North East Zone has great potential lack of infrastructure in other states has kept the climbers slightly behind the strong Manipur team .Agartala has a climbing wall which hosted the judges course a few months back.
“I want to do a lot of things for the north east ,53mountain division of the Indian army has recently helped us with climbing gear and i hope state govts do chip in to promote sports ,we have no dearth of talent and commitment sponsorship doesn’t flow like the other regions in India this is our only handicap” says

Climbers to look out for Mimar Singh,Debaladevi, Surjitand Mohindro ,Susi Rani there can be good surprises from Meghalaya and Tripura this year .
